The fitting room notebook

The number inside a shoe is a starting point. Shape and size scales vary, so a few minutes with the right chart can make choosing a pair much clearer.

1. Start with both feet.

Place a sheet of paper on a firm floor with one edge against a wall. Stand naturally with your heel at that edge. Mark the end of your longest toe, keeping the pen upright, then measure from the wall edge to the mark. Repeat for the other foot and record the longer length in centimeters. If you measure in inches, multiply by 2.54 to convert to centimeters.

2. Open the chart for your exact pair.

Each product page has its own size reference. The selector may show an EU number or a manufacturer’s marked numeric size; it is not automatically a U.S. women’s size. Where a documented U.S. conversion is available, we include it. Avoid carrying a conversion from one style to another.

3. Read the measurement label.

A foot-length chart is intended to be compared with your foot measurement. A shoe-length chart measures the shoe instead. Do not match your bare foot to the same shoe length without allowing toe room; compare that measurement with a similar shoe that fits you. Measurements do not fully describe width, instep height or toe shape.

4. Consider the shape you like to wear.

A rounded flat, a pointed slip-on and a square-toe boot have different outlines. Look at the fastening and the way the upper sits over the foot. If your measurement falls between the listed references or you are unsure about the width, send us the style name, your foot length and a description of your usual fit concerns before deciding.

5. Keep the indoor try-on clean.

Check both shoes on a clean indoor surface and keep the packaging while you decide. Take a few natural steps and pay attention to toe room, heel movement and pressure from straps or seams. Avoid outdoor wear if you may return them.

Eligible unused shoes in their original packaging may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Read the complete return instructions, or ask a sizing question.
